To escape her hovering mom in Sacramento, medical student Angie LeCroix heals from a car accident in Virgin River where her Aunts Brie and Mel, and her Uncle Jack welcome her at his bar. At the same time Navy pilot Patrick Riordan also heals at the cabin of his brother Aiden (see Moonlight Road). Angie and Patrick need some breathing room from both family hovering.

When Angie and Patrick meet, they both accept the attraction and the poor timing. She needs to recover emotionally from her near fatal accident in which the other driver died; he reconsiders his commitment to the navy. As they fall in love, their respective families have plans on how the pair will spend the holidays.

The latest Riordan brothers’ Virgin River contemporary romance (see Temptation Ridge and Angel’s Peak) is a warm Christmas tale starring two hurting individuals who find solace with one another to the chagrin of their families. The storyline is at its best when it focuses on the lead pair; but loses momentum with a barrage of where are they now anecdotes from previous protagonists. Still readers will agree this is our kind of Christmas tale.
