In New York, H&W Investigations operative Shiarra Waynest is depressed with recent events. She feels she has enough on her plate with her hunter’s belt turning her into something she does not want to be. However her unhappiness stems from feeling Deceived By Others; her cheating ex-boyfriend Chaz and his Sunstriker werewolf pack. Not only does she think they are a crime ring, but they murdered Jon Pradiz. Finally as she counts down the days to the Full Moon since being scratched by one of the Sunstriker Lycan mob, Shia fears she may turn into a rogue werewolf if she lives that long as she is Hunted by the Others.

Not one to hide and wait, Shia decides to assault the Sunstrikers. She turns to the White Hats for help. After her first kill, Shia better understands the hunter belt “resident” who persuades her that her enemy is vampiric club-owner Alec Royce.

The latest H&W Investigations urban fantasy (see and Taken by the Others) is an entertaining bloody thriller as the acrimonious heroine takes the war to her paranormal adversaries. The storyline is fast-paced and Shia’s angry attitude seems correct for what has happened to her; while the insight into the belt is intriguing. However, there is no climax as this is a set-up book.
