Echoes of Titanic
Mindy Starns Clark and John Campbell Clark
Harvest House, Mar 1 2012, $14.99
ISBN: 9780736929462
In 1913, Adele Brennan stands in Lower Manhattan overlooking the Hudson on a cold April day thinking about her family members (Uncle Rowan and Cousin Jocelyn) who died horribly one year ago today in the frozen ocean. Their bodies were never recovered for her to properly bury her loved ones except to honor them by making something of herself in New York.
In 2002, Adele’s great granddaughter Kelsey Tate knows the family tragedy and achievement as she works at the firm Brennan & Tate her late relative established nine decades ago. As Kelsey stands on the memorial in Battery Park honoring those who died on the Titanic, she fears she is failing Adele with a hostile take-over seemingly imminent. A distant relative Rupert claims that Adele died with Rowan, but Jocelyn survived and changed her identity so that Adele’s father who had not seen his daughter since she was a toddler would welcome her into his home. He is suing the estate based on the alleged fraud committed by Jocelyn. Stunned by the assault on her idol, Kelsey finds her boss Gloria dead near the office. A desperate Kelsey turns to her beloved Cole Thornton, who dumped her for her tunnel vision, to learn what happened in 1912 and in 2002.
This is a superb mystery that looks back to what happened to Adele and Jocelyn on the Titanic, which has impacts ninety years later. The storyline is fast-paced and filled with action while the heroine’s world shatters starting with the allegations. Fans will relish this strong entry as Team Clark provides an engaging tale with a strong final twist to what happened to the cousins on that doomed voyage.
