Joslyn Kirk sold her software business and left Phoenix to return home to Parable, Montana on a secret mission. Her late stepfather cheated many locals out of their money; she wants to pay them back so the townsfolk are confused by anonymous checks arriving in the mail. Only her childhood BFF realtor Kendra Shepherd believes Joslyn is behind the checks.

When rancher John Carmody dies, he shocks his legitimate son Hutch and his illegitimate son Slade Barlow when he splits his fortune including Whisper Creek between his two offspring as he never recognized the latter when he was alive. Slade, now the sheriff, is attracted to Joslyn, who he had nothing to do with when she grew up affluent while he was poor. His half-brother Hutch used to be her boyfriend so he expects Hutch to start up again with her though he looks at Kendra a lot. Complicating matters is Slade’s former wife Layne’s daughter sixteen year old Shea wants to stay with him rather than boarding school as her mom has a new relationship with her no part of it.

The first Parable Big Sky Country romance is an entertaining tale starring an engaging cast who bring to life a small town. The protagonists are a delightful pairing of a couple who grew up on opposite sides of the tracks so though they knew each other, this is their first chance at love. Though a late spin seems unlikely, fans will appreciate Linda Lael Miller’s Montana family drama.
