In 1848 Miss Caroline Huntington is riding while on a Crete holiday when she tumbles. Reclusive Dr. Alex Trentham is called to provide medical assistance to Caroline although he has not practiced in years.
They are attracted to one another, but she goes home to London to continue her work with the poor while he continues to hide in Greece. The Earl of Twickenham decides he wants to adopt his niece Caroline. Her cousin Reginald rages in anger blaming his father for betraying him with this outrageous gesture that will reduce his inheritance. Others want to harm her too just as Alex arrives to plea with the woman he loves to give him a second chance.
This entertaining Victorian romance stars an intriguing lead male and an intrepid heroine. The fun is observing Alex out not just protecting his beloved but more so in his efforts to persuade her in all sincerity that he is PASSIONATE about his love for her. Although the villains seem a bit weak especially cousin Reginald, fans will enjoy Anthea Lawson’s exciting mid nineteenth century tale as Caroline and Alex make for a wonderful historical.
