Accomplishments have always come easy to thirtyish Dr. Lizzie
Howard until recently. Her dad’s death
shook Lizzie and affected her work as Chief of Emergency Medicine in
Springfield, Massachusetts. Her boss Dr.
Ian Foreman insisted she take a leave of absence and preferably leave town on a
needed R&R. Thus Lizzie visits her
childhood friend Charlie in Jewell Cove, Maine where temporarily she will take
over running the local clinic from her BFF
Working at the clinic, Dr. Josh Collins wants the big city
outsider to go home. However, instead of
fleeing back to Massachusetts, Lizzie feels increasingly like she found a
perfect fit. As the two doctors fall in
love, Josh revises what he wants from Lizzie but like her also fears
commitment.
The troubled lead couple and the Maine small-town locale make the
third Jewell Cove contemporary (see Treasure on Lilac Lane and House on
Blackberry Hill) a charming read.
Besides medicine, Lizzie and Josh share in common relationship pain and
anguish though the cause and reactions to the big hurt differ. Summer On
Lovers’ Island is a well-written second chance at contentment
through love romance.
