At high class Chez Sophia in New Orleans, Stephanie Grant “sells” the idea that she is an escort. Bartender Jake Broussard watches Stephanie “perform”. His instincts honed from his cop days scream at him that she is not a hooker prowling for a wealthy patron. Knowing he should mind his business, Jake confronts Stephanie until she admits she came from Chicago seeking her missing twenty-something sister Tina. Regardless of the danger, Stephanie explains she has no choice except to continue her masquerade.

Though Jake left the police force vowing never again after what happened to his Becky, his attraction to Stephanie will not allow him to walk away from the courageous fool. Keeping her from harm proves a full time job that Jake covets in spite of the risk to his life and the guilt in his soul re Becky as he and Stephanie fall in love.

This 2005 reprint of In Your Wildest Dreams is an enjoyable contemporary due to an engaging lead couple and New Orleans, just under two-months before Katrina. Although a subplot involving a street teen runaway enforces Jake’s save damsels in distress nature, this segue distracts from the prime otherwise taut romantic suspense.
