Danny Hansen had a very disturbing violent childhood. When he and Renee Gilmore met, they fell in love and he thought his troubled and her amoral past were finally over (see The Priest’s Graveyard). Instead of cohabitating at a condo, in order to keep his beloved safe Danny resides at Basal Prison, a guest of the state for fifty years for two murders he did not do.

An unknown person informs Renee that Danny will die in prison unless he breaks his pledge of nonviolence. She also receives a package that means someone knows the truth that she and Danny concealed by his turning himself in to the DA over seven years ago. A frantic Renee pleads with former cop Keith to keep Danny alive.

The Sanctuary is an intriguing Christian thriller that condemns the failed prison governmental industrial warehousing complex which abets antisocial feral behavior. The storyline engages the audience especially inside Basal though there is a déjà vu feel to the plot as conscientious objector Danny constantly turns the other cheek and totally committed Renee never truly considers an affair with Keith as that would sort of violate Thou shalt not commit adultery.
