Once A SEAL

Anne Elizabeth

Sourcebook, Nov 5 2013, $6.99

ISBN: 9781402268939

Aria Kavanagh and U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Daniel McCullum are in love. They marry, but their happily ever after is marred by Aria’s culture shock of being a SEAL’s wife. Dealing with his abrupt dangerous missions and long separations has Aria feeling lonely and frightened that her beloved will not return. She learns military life proves difficult for this civilian as the spousal caste system is built on rank.

Dan loves his wife and would do almost anything to help Aria adjust even perhaps give up his vocation that he loves. He knows his spouse struggles with her life change from a civilian unaware of the Navy except from Headline News to being a military dependent confronting a hierarchy she does not understand; but Dan vows to be patient and when stateside be there for his Aria.

The latest Anne Elizabeth’s SEAL drama (see A SEAL at Heart) is an insightful look at the life of a militarily wife. Readers will feel the fears that eat at Aria’s stomach while her mate is in the dangerous midst of war and her sense of being a fish out of water. Although the depth of that subculture is perceptive and educational, it also slows down the pacing. Still fans will appreciate this homage to our war heroes and their military spouses who make incredible sacrifices as the 1% that matters.
