In December 1888 Pinkerton Agent Kyle Russell is unhappy with his assignment to find missing Confederate gold because the President voted out of office needs it to regain the White House in four years. He tells his Cap he gave up the holidays with his family. His superior tells him if he solves this case, he can return to his obsession: the recapturing of Will Tucker, who escaped from Angola Prison.

In Memphis, the father of Millie Cope has arranged for her to marry Sir William Trueck, a man she never met. Ever since her mom and sisters died a decade ago from Yellow fever, she and her dad have been distant so living in London feels refreshing. However, on New Year’s Eve, after meeting her fiancé, Millie leaves her father to entertain him. Her curiosity about an odd crate leads to her encountering Kyle on the roof of the city’s Cotton Exchange where he shows her gadgets he invented. Ignoring Sir Trueck and her father, Millie joins Kyle on his case(s).

The second The Secret Lives of Will Tucker late nineteenth century investigative romance is a wonderful historical that brings to life the winter of 1888-1889 in the South and the secret of Sophie secondary plot occurring in 1837. Although the entertaining storyline somewhat parallels its predecessor (see Flora's Wish), readers will appreciate this inventive steampunk Christian thriller.
