In 1815 Paris, the European leaders debate the fate of Napoleon. Amongst those in the city for the political meetings is infamous womanizer Prince Nicholas of Petersbourg. At a ball, he meets the charming masked Veronique. However, instead of a tryst, the rake’s head pounds from being drugged as he awakens a prisoner.

Veronique Montagne feels remorse for what she did to Nicholas, but had no choice as she needed to pay her father’s gambling debts in order to keep the family off the street. Making her feel worse is her attraction to Nicholas. Although irate at her duplicity, Nicholas wants her too and convinces Veronique to abet his escape. To avoid scandal they marry and head to Petersbourg where the past places both in peril in the present.

The third Royal Trilogy (see Be My Prince and Princess In Love) is an enjoyable Regency era romance in which a French siren and a philandering prince fall in love. Readers will understand Veronique’s dilemmas and choices though not necessarily agree with them; but not Nicholas who seems flighty with his mercurial mood swings between to be or not to be with Veronique. Still fans will enjoy touring Paris and Petersbourg just after the defeat of Napoleon.
