In 1812, Sebastian St. Cyr and Hero Jarvis marry. He has concerns as she is the daughter of his bitter enemy Lord Charles, the real power in Britain; and she has doubts as she refuses to give up her independence. While the pair argues over their honeymoon, Hero’s close friend Gabrielle Tennyson studies the Camlet Moat dig in Trent as she theorizes that these ruins may be Camelot; which encourage the fervor of those demanding the return of King Arthur in order to rid the country of the decadent Hanover family.

Someone stabs to death the female antiquities expert; her two younger cousins (nine years old George and three years old Alfred) are missing and presumed dead too. Hero and Sebastian go their separate ways as each investigates the homicide and missing children. However, they unite when danger threatens their lives.

The latest Sebastian St. Cyr (and Hero Jarvis) regency mystery (see Where Shadows Dance) is a superb thriller with a complex missing children’s case and a homicide as well as the even more complicated (and convoluted) relationship between the protagonists. The whodunit is excellent with its tying of King Arthur to King George as C.S. Harris provides a fabulous investigative historical thriller.
