In 1860 London, Wealthy businessman Edmond Perring makes a shocking offer to seamstress Miss Eleanor Beckett; she rejects his scandalous deal. Later Perring assaults Eleanor, but Josiah Hastings intervenes.

Josiah has been depressed from over a year in a dungeon in India as much as his eyes weakening; something not good for an artist. However, he has a surge of optimistic energy as he believes Miss Eleanor is his masterpiece. She reluctantly agrees to serve as his model even though that is inappropriate; but she has no choice as she is held culpable at work and at the boarding house for Perring’s attack. As Eleanor lives in Josiah’s home, she falls in love with her kind hearted host, who has vowed to free the woman he cherishes once he completes his portrait.

This is a warm Victorian romance that uses social class as a key impetus to the relationship between the artist and the model. Passion Wears Pearls is a well written tender historical starring two superb protagonists, who may learn too late that love may be blind to the knowledge of what the other cherishes.
