Just after his girlfriend Robin Castagna ends their relationship, Dr. Alex Delaware’s former lover Sharon Ransom asks to see him. He remembers her strange behavior, which drove him to end their relationship, so he refuses to meet with her as he does not need her tsuris. However, the psychiatrist is shocked and overwhelmed with guilt when he learns the next day that Sharon committed suicide.

Obsessed with a need to know fueled by his remorse for saying no to her and a thirst to regain his shattered self-esteem, Alex investigates what happened to make Sharon kill herself. With the help of his friend LAPD police detective Milo Sturgis, Alex traces Sharon to a twisted horror version of Hollywood in which murder, pornography, blackmail and much more are the norm of those living in the luxurious mansions and on the streets.

This is a great graphic adaptation of a powerful dark Delaware 1989 thriller. Ande Parks does a super job of capturing the essence of Delaware’s battered ego while Michael Gaydos portrays Los Angeles vast wealth gap connected by a stark darkness, made eerier by the black and white drawings. Though one must adapt to seeing a young Delaware’s picture (extremely well done), fans will appreciate the superb comic book version of Silent Partner.
