Ice was born as Tracy Marrow in Newark and raised in upper middle class Summit with two caring and nurturing parents. He learned early on the true meaning of “pass” and “darkie” as the rules of allowable social conduct with whites and blacks in suburbia was summed up by his mom: “people are stupid.” When he was in the third grade, his mother died from a heart attack; four years later his dad also succumbed to a heart attack. Twelve years old Tracy was sent to live with an aunt in Los Angeles. He joined the gang community and by eighteen became a dad. Tracy joined the army and for two years was gung ho, but halfway into his tour he wanted out though he completed his commitment. When he returned to Los Angeles, he became a thief before becoming Ice-T the rapper, public enemy number one in the family values Quayle condemnation and censorship of Cop Killer, a rocker and a Hollywood star.

This is a fascinating super autobiography in which Ice profoundly concentrates on his reengineering his life with several incarnations. His early tastes of racism from whites and blacks sets the profound profane tone as the audience learns the star’s decision making thoughts. Ironically this insightful easy to read memoir can be summed up with Quayle who?
