Although most folks from the lower states insist Minnesota has two seasons, residents of town like Lake Eden know there are four seasons with the recent one being the Mud Season. Thus Hannah Swensen drives her cookie truck very carefully as road conditions during this time of year are slick and hazardous. She and her sister Michelle are delivering cinnamon rolls to the Lake Eden Inn when they come across a chain reaction multi vehicle pileup. A bus belonging to the Cinnamon Roll Six jazz band has fallen into the ditch; the driver is dead but the musicians are more fortunate only suffering minor injuries. The sisters go to help those inside the bus and meet keyboard player Buddy Neiman who tries to pick up Michelle who has a boyfriend. He has injuries to his wrist so is sent to the hospital for x-rays. However, someone stabs him with a surgeon’s scissor, killing him. Hannah investigates who murdered the jazz performer seeking the motive even as her beloved boyfriend Norman has related personal issues that may end their relationship.

The latest Hannah Swensen amateur sleuth (see Devil’s Food Cake Murder) is an enjoyable whodunit with several sweet recipes. The storyline is fast-paced as the heroine follows clues that stun her when they somewhat lead to Lake Eden. Although the cops are non-existent, as if they did not want to interfere with the baker’s inquiry, fans still will appreciate this culinary cinnamon cozy.
